Philip Kotler to Modi
Renowned marketing guru Philip Kotler said he was 'high on Modi' and the Indian Prime Minister was like 'a breath of fresh air'.
Kotler was addressing top corporate leaders, marketing professionals and faculty members and students from management institutes on the subject 'Innovation through Marketing', at an event organized in Bengaluru on Wednesday.
Many political commentators have claimed that the BJP's phenomenal success in the 2014 general elections was on account of a marketing blitzkrieg carried out by Narendra Modi. But Kotler disagreed."He is often mistaken to have marketed himself to fame, but I actually feel it is his work ethic and set of values that helped him catch up," said Kotler. And added, "People often ask me if I had a marketing plan to be who I am? I said no, I just enjoy doing my work and I was lucky enough for my work to catch on."
About Modi's 'Make In India' campaign, Kotler urged the country's marketing experts to first zero in on what aspect or category of Indian products they wished to see upholding the image of India, and work towards marketing it better. Kotler spoke about the innovations that could be brought about by the different trends of marketing.
