A paper published by Evolution and Human Behavior took a look at one of our favorite subjects: orgasms! The study took an in-depth look at the timing and frequency of the female orgasm.

Self-masturbatory orgasm – 72%
Non-coital partner’s orgasm – 54.5%

Coital orgasm before ejaculation – 42%
Coital orgasm during ejaculation – 28%
Coital orgasm after ejaculation – 33%

What does all this science-y stuff mean?
Well, for one, a surprisingly high number of women achieve orgasm before they’re partners ejaculate. A fair number of partners achieve simultaneous orgasms and of course good old reliable masturbation wins the race. I do enjoy getting myself off while someone watches, but I’m just hoping the whopping 72% of woman who take care of business themselves weren’t obliged to do so after their partner rolled over to take a nap. That’s just lazy sex etiquette on the guy’s part if you ask me.
The study also revealed that if the woman’s sex partner is a ridiculously hot dude the couple in question is much more likely to achieve simultaneous orgasms. This discovery could be used to support the theory of survival of the fittest.

If you consider that female orgasms are designed to increase fertility by increasing the retention of sperm and that a woman has to orgasm anywhere from one minute before up to forty-five minutes after her partner ejaculates for increased sperm retention to occur, it’s not a far stretch of the imagination to conclude that biology was designed to carry on all those good-looking genes.
The thing about biology though, is that we can use reason to circumvent it. So if you guys out there don’t want to knock up your lady friends make sure to use protection and use this data to your advantage by making sure your partner orgasms well before you do. Preferably with your mouth, if I remember correctly no one can get knocked up that way. Anal too, that would work… you don’t have to worry about making babies that way. At least that’s what the nuns taught me.
