Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson (born October 25, 1984), known by her stage name Katy Perry is an American singer-songwriter and musician. Born in California to pastor parents, she grew up listening to gospel music and singing in church. Perry rose to fame in 2008 with her breakthrough single I Kissed A Girl . Katy Perry originally released music under her actual name. Her debut CD was Katy Hudson and this was a gospel rock album The album was released in 2001 as a Christian music album by Red Hill Records when she was seventeen years old before she made the switch to mainstream pop music.
Perry is credited as an author of four of the songs on the album, while is credited as a co-author on the remaining six. "Trust in Me" was the lead single. Perry continued with an on-and-off recording career, having been dropped three times by record labels, finally signing to Capitol Records in 2007. She then released her first single Ur So Gay which was later listed as a track on her first major label album release. The song was labelled by critics as homophobic, but Perry disagreed. She released her first mainstream album, One Of The Boys , on June 17th 2008.
 It debuted and peaked at #9 on the US Billboard 200, #6 on the Canadian album chart, #11 on the UK and Austrailian album charts and #17 on the New Zealand album chart. It has sold 2.5 million copies worldwide to date and was certified Platinum in 6 countries. The first single from One Of The Boys was arguably the biggest single of 2008, I Kissed A Girl . It was released on May 6th and to date has sold over 5 million copies worldwide. The song has peaked at #1 in 18 countries worldwide including the US, the UK, Canada, Austrailia and New Zealand. It was certified 6x Platinum, 3x Platinum in Denmark and the US, 2x Platinum in Austrailia and Platinum in Austria, Germany, New Zealand and Switzerland. It was certified Gold in Belgium and UK. The second single was Hot N Cold which was released on September 30th 2008 and peake.
 

Katy Perry and Russell Brand are reportedly planning to marry in Maui in late October.

The couple - who got engaged in India on New Year's Eve (31.12.09) following a whirlwind romance - are believed to be preparing for a "small" but lavish ceremony at a private location on the idyllic Hawaiian.

Guests could include former Oasis star Noel Gallagher, Rihanna and British comedian David Walliams and his supermodel wife Lara Stone.

However, it seems the 25-year-old pop beauty and her 34-year-old fiance - who was known for his womanising ways before he settled down with Katy - are trying to keep everyone guessing on their location.The 'California Gurls' singer previously admitted she and Russell make up stories about their impending nuptials so their true wedding plans remain secret.
Katy said: "Russell makes up these really crazy stories about me and our wedding.

"I make up stories, too - I said he was a 'groomzilla'. He said I farted a lot, but I've never farted in front of him - honestly!

"I hear these crazy stories - we are going to get married in latex, underwear, in Spandex, in Japan, in India, in Thailand. But I think all this craziness about my marriage is really funny.

"And I don't set the record straight as I love this chaotic circus of wrong information, because it is not really anyone else's business beside the people that we have invited and us, of course."
