The Vadodara Marathon (VM) may have got its name successfully registered in the Guinness Book of World Record for making world's longest painting last year, but many children who had participated in this event are yet to get due recognition. While many kids, who had participated in the painting event in October last year, haven't got the certificates at all, some were handed certificates of the marathon race!
Over 8,000 kids participated in the painting competition wherein a 4.33 km-long painting was made at United Way ground. VM authorities had promised that all participants would get certificates of participation in this record-breaking event.
"My daughter had participated in the painting event organised by Vadodara Marathon. But to our surprise it was not of the painting event, but my daughter Jinal was handed a certificate for running the 5 km marathon race," Akshay Shah said.
Similarly, a four-and-half-year-old girl, who had participated in the painting event, has been given certificate of participation in the 1 km segment of marathon race. "She never took part in the marathon race. And, how can such small kid run for a kilometre?" questioned her father. VM had organised the painting event along with several other events as a run-up to the race that was organised in November last year.
"I am eagerly waiting for the certificate of participation in the painting event since last year. When I asked my teacher about it, she said that I may not get the certificate," said a standard VIII student of Navrachna School. VM authorities were not available for comment, but sources said that there may have been some anomalies in the distribution of certificates and if brought to their notice, it will be sorted out.
