Austrian defence company, Schiebel, is hoping its contacts in the UAE will buy more its unmanned aerial vehicles.
A number of the Camcopter S-100 UAV's have already been sold to the UAE Armed Forces.
With military planners switching to unmanned systems in many centres to lower costs, the UAE has 60 of the machines and is likely to take more for aerial reconnaissance activities.
Schiebel has confirmed that UAE government entities are using the aircraft to secure critical assets such as power plants and oil and gas pipelines and refineries.
The Vienna-based company makes the machines specifically to be able to withstand the extreme weather and high-altitude conditions.
The planned research is a continuing research efforts extended from unmanned vehicle research and development at Institut Teknologi Bandung funded by government funding and various industrial sources in the last ten years. As the most relevant track record, the research span from 2001-2006 is marked as Track Record. This period corroborates the scientific efforts leading to the development of several operational prototypes primarily for scientific test-beds in the field of unmanned aerial and underwater vehicles.
The planned research from 2007-2010 is next described. The period of research further substantiate the scientific developments leading to the commercialization stage.
