The Oldest farmhouses in Greece, and perhaps in all of Europe, were discovered at Kefala Hill - home to the Minoan Palace of Knossos in the Cretan city of Irakleio. The houses reportedly date as far back as 7000BC. This landmark discovery, made by geophysicists working
on the hill, was unveiled by Catherine Morgan, director of the British Archaeological School at Athens on February 24 during the school's annual meeting. The school has been conducting studies at the Knossos site with Dutch scientists since May 2009. They are charting and imaging
the archaeological and geological deposits with the use of state-of-the-art equipment. The ruins at Knossos were discovered in 1878 by Minos Kalokairinos, who conducted the first excavations at Kefala Hill
