At best, it should be re-worded.

The work by the great and wondrous Panini, whom I admire deeply, is said to be the earliest known work on linguistics. Sanskrit truly is a wonderful language and it is a pity that the majority of people in India have not shown much interest in this wonderful language. HOWEVER, just because the oldest known work on linquistics was written in Sanskrit, does not mean it is the oldest language in the world. Neither, does it mean that it is the oldest language or the mother of all Indo-European languages.

The language of the Hittites is said to be the oldest attested language of the Indo-European language family. It was a language spoken in Anatolia and its historical records, written in cuneiform, predate Sanskrit.

Now if you mean that Sanskrit is the oldest WRITTEN language, then again I do not agree. Currently, the oldest writing system still in use today is Chinese. It's development predates Sanskrit. The first people to develop writing are said to be the Sumerians who lived in what is now Iraq. They developed cuneiform.

Also, I don't think Sanskrit is perfect. I think it's prescriptivist, which is why I think it has fallen out of popular use in it's pure form.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7690733481380279067.post-28476279051906132892011-07-28T00:27:19.427+05:302011-07-28T00:27:19.427+05:30Sanskrit is the oldest because south indians peopl...Sanskrit is the oldest because south indians people use sanskrit mantras in their cultural ceremonies. why??? and why they use sanskrit words such as snaan(bath), neer(water) etc....Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7690733481380279067.post-88317802366526797672011-07-11T21:47:26.450+05:302011-07-11T21:47:26.450+05:30just want to know the fact which one is oldest San...just want to know the fact which one is oldest Sanskrit or TamilAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7690733481380279067.post-57974516778972321642011-07-11T21:45:40.250+05:302011-07-11T21:45:40.250+05:30I am really impressed to know the facts of Sanskri...I am really impressed to know the facts of Sanskrit and I love it.
