The country witnessed a surge in rape cases in 2007 with Madhya Pradesh topping the list followed by West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh. these cases will registered in the states where the people are not well civilised and UN-cultured , even the law is not followed /maintened by political peoples in such states.
police should be power full enouch to catch and punish them.
Delhi reported 598 rape cases thus topping the chart of Union territories which registered a total of 641 cases.
total of 3,010 rape cases were registered in Madhya Pradesh in 2007.

Uttar Pradesh=1,648 cases
Bihar=1,555 cases
Assam=1,555 cases
Nagaland=13 cases
Manipur=20 cases
Sikkim=24cases
Arunachal Pradesh=48 cases
Meghalaya=82 cases
Mizoram=83
Andhra Pradesh =1,070
tamilnadu=523
kerla=512
karnataka=436
Maharashtra=1,451
Orissa=939
Punjab=519
Out of the total of 20,737 registered cases, police arrested 25,363 people and 5,022 were convicted in 2007.
